Edward Sherer

First Lieutenant, Company G

Eighteen-year old Edward Sherer enlisted as 2nd Lieutenant of Co. G in the 67th New York, 1st Long Island Volunteers on June 20, 1861 at Brooklyn. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Co. H on December 1st then transferred back to Co. G on March 1, 1862.

He was discharged October 14, 1862 and transferred to the 159th NY Volunteers where he was mustered in as 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant. He was discharged November 24, 1862 and appointed Adjutant 2nd Regiment Hawkins Zouaves (178th NY Volunteers). He Mustered Out of the 178th NY on April 21, 1863, and enrolled at Brooklyn as a Private in Co. H, 23rd Militia, June 18, 1863. Private Sherer Mustered Out for the last time on July 22, 1863 at Brooklyn NY.
