This adobe walled structure is the last remaining original building on
Pigeon's Ranch... a part of the battlefield.

After three days of fighting with 1,200 roughly on each side,
the Battle of Glorieta Pass ended with 100 killed, 158 wounded, and 107 captured...
With Federal forces having successfully destroyed
their already tenuous supplies, the Confederates were forced into retreat
and eventually withdrew back to Texas.

Although the numbers were small in comparison to more well-known battles, the stakes were just as high.

And as the Confederates reached their greatest extent here,
Glorieta Pass is often called 'The Gettysburg of the West'.
