Fort Sumter

Charleston, SC

January 18, 2003

Whilst traveling through enemy territory, Your Correspondent spent some leave where the very trouble started, Charleston S.C. Bitterly cold as it was, taking the ferry to Fort Sumter was well worth the trouble. Only the first of its three stories of height remain and the center has been bisected by an intrusive WWI addition nevertheless it's still possible for any visitor to imagine what the opening shots of the War must have been like to men stationed that April day.
